ASCP Valid Certification Explanation

Individuals who became certified in the entry level categories beginning in January 2004, Pathologist’ Assistants, and individuals who became certified in the specialist and diplomate categories beginning in January 2006 receive a time limited certificate verifying their certification. This Certificate of Qualification document signifies that an individual’s ASCP certification in the designated category is valid for a period of three years. These individuals are required to participate in the Certification Maintenance Program (CMP) to maintain a valid ASCP certification every three years.

For those individuals who are ASCP certified prior to January 2004, there is no time limit on their certification. A Certificate of Qualification indicates an award date. Certification for these individuals does not expire.
