ASCP is launching a new initiative to help support laboratory professionals in expanding their scientific knowledge and advancing their careers. Five laboratory professionals each will be chosen to receive $1,000 ONELab Travel Grants to attend ASCP 2013 Chicago, Sept. 18–21.

“We really want to encourage laboratory professionals to attend ASCP 2013 Chicago to experience the fantastic educational opportunities that will be offered. ASCP is committed to opening new avenues of learning for all of our members.”

The grants may be used to cover the cost of air fare, hotel accommodations, and incidentals to attend the meeting. Each recipient will also receive a complimentary registration to ASCP 2013 Chicago.

“We really want to encourage laboratory professionals to attend ASCP 2013 Chicago to experience the fantastic educational opportunities that will be offered,” says ASCP Membership Commission Chair Lynnette Chakkaphak, MS, MT(ASCP). “ASCP is committed to opening new avenues of learning for all of our members.”

This year’s meeting features a high profile keynote speaker, three general sessions focusing on the future of laboratory medicine, and an array of educational sessions taught by leaders in their fields. Healthcare reform is at a critical turning point, and ASCP members won’t want to miss the dynamic discussions focusing on ways to increase their effectiveness in the laboratory, leading-edge scientific innovations, and laboratory management.

To apply for the Travel Grant, lab professionals need to submit a statement of up to 250 words, explaining how attending ASCP 2013 Chicago will benefit their career and educational goals. The deadline to apply is Aug. 9. Applicants must be a current laboratory professional member of ASCP. (Members of ASCP committees, commissions, and the Board of Directors are not eligible to apply.)

Recipients will be able to pick up their check upon registering at ASCP 2013 Chicago, which will be held at the Hyatt Regency Chicago.

Support for the travel grants is provided by ASCP’s ONELab Fund, which enables the Society to undertake new programs and initiatives that promote ASCP’s core values—Knowledge, Advancement, Collaboration, and Global Outreach. ASCP endeavors to provide excellence in education, certification, and advocacy on behalf of patients, pathologists, and laboratory professionals.
