In-Service Examinations for Residents

Supporting your residents – and your program – with tools for success

The ASCP Resident In-Service Examination (RISE) is a comprehensive annual evaluation tool covering all major areas of resident training.

Detailed comparative reports delivered to your program help residents assess and track their medical knowledge, while assisting Program Directors in evaluating their training curriculum.

ASCP RISE results are confidentially distributed by ASCP to each resident and Program Director.

100% of US-based residency programs utilize RISE

Comprehensive Comparative Reports

Following the administration of ASCP RISE each Spring, individual reporting provides residents with an objective picture of their medical knowledge as it evolves throughout their residency.

Comparative reports show how residents’ scores in each content area evolve year-over-year as well as how they compare against all other participating residents in their program year – a pool that is inclusive of all US-based pathology residents.

Benchmarking and Historical Comparisons

Annual ASCP RISE reporting includes clear benchmarking data comparing your residents’ overall scores in each content area against all other participating programs.

You’ll be able to clearly identify potential areas of strength and weakness to help inform your curriculum, while tracking against years of historical data to see how your program’s scores are trending.

RISE-FIRST: Developed for Your Newest Residents

Developed in response to needs expressed by Program Directors, ASCP RISE-FIRST is intended for pathology residents just starting their pathology residency program. Approximately 150 multiple choice questions, many with images, cover all areas of anatomic and clinical pathology and are not targeted to be as advanced as questions in ASCP RISE.

Program Directors may find ASCP RISE-FIRST a helpful tool in establishing a pathology-specific baseline for milestone assessment.

RISE results are confidentially distributed by ASCP to each Resident and Program Director.

The use of RISE results and their distribution to other advising faculty are at the discretion of the program director and departmental leadership.

Computer-generated statistical and score reports are provided to assess both individual and peer group performance in relation to year of training and each content area.
