Council of Laboratory Management & Administration

The ASCP Council of Laboratory Management & Administration is the voice of the Society’s management and administration members. The Council provides advice and recommendations to the ASCP Board of Directors through the Commission on Membership on ways in which the Society may best meet the professional and educational needs of members who are managers and administrators.

The Goals of the Council are to:

  • Facilitate communication between the ASCP and management/administration members.
  • Develop strategies for recruitment and retention of managers and administrators.
  • Promote advocacy on issues affecting laboratory managers and administrators.
  • Recommend new products and services for management and administration members.
  • Address issues related to manager and administrator professional development.
  • Develop and guide chapters/chapter leaders; develop chapter resources and programs that deepen engagement.
  • Encourage laboratory manager and administrator representation on ASCP committees.
  • Assist in developing future laboratory leaders.
  • Identify and mentor members for leadership roles in the Society.
  • Encourage engagement among laboratory managers and administrators that ensures continued membership and engagement through all career stages.
  • Encourage laboratory managers and administrators to become ASCP Career Ambassadors.
  • Guide the development of KnowledgeLab education content and design.
  • Develop hot topics to solicit member input and creation/delivery of subsequent member roundtables addressing those topics.
  • Promote inter-Council collaboration.

Requirements

  • Be an ASCP Laboratory Administrator member in good standing.
  • Be available to meet via conference call, and in-person once per year. Conference calls are conducted during ASCP’s normal operating business hours, Monday through Friday.
  • Reliable access to internet and email.

Time Commitment

  • Attend 1 Leadership Forum onsite meeting per year.
  • Participate in 4 conference calls per year.
  • Serve on workgroups as needed and/or desired. (Workgroup conference calls are scheduled as needed.)

Committee Composition

  • Chair – Serves a 1-year term.
  • Chair-Elect – The Chair-Elect is selected from sitting Council members, and serves a 1-year term.
  • Members – 9 positions. Members serve a 3-year term, depending on the needs of the Council.
  • Terms begin and end with each Annual Business meeting which corresponds with the ASCP Annual Meeting.
