Appropriate Use Criteria: ASCP, the American Medical Association (AMA), and more than 40 other medical specialty societies joined together in a
letter to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) urging it to work closely with stakeholders in advance of its upcoming report to Congress about the Appropriate Use Criteria (AUC). The letter expressed several concerns about CMS’s AUC Program, including a lack of awareness and preparedness, noting that a 2020 CMS claims analysis suggested that 90-91 percent of claims would not be considered compliant with CMS’s AUC program requirements.
Principles of Medicare Payment Reform: ASCP joined 120 other medical specialty groups in AMA’s
Characteristics of a Rational Medicare Physician Payment System. The document outlines a set of principles to guide payment reform as an early step in efforts to develop consensus across medicine on recommendations to reshape the payment system so that it works better for patients and physicians.
