Infant RSV Risk Highest Among Those Born During Summer Months, Study Finds

Infectious Disease Advisor (6/18, Chan) reported, “Infants born during the summer showed the greatest overall risk for medically attended respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection, whereas those born between October and December were at increased risk for severe RSV disease.” In the study, “the overall risk was highest for infants born in July (6%), June (7%), and September (10%). When using the sensitive RSV definition, the overall risk was highest for infants born in June (19%-20%) and September (26%).” The findings were published in the Journal of the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society.
