Endocrinology Advisor (9/9, Maitlall) reports, “The presence of thyroid peroxidase (TPO) antibodies is associated with a higher risk for progression to overt hypothyroidism at 1- and 5-years postpartum among patients with untreated gestational subclinical hypothyroidism, according to study findings.” The researchers said, “These findings could be used to argue in favor of routine measurement of TPO antibody titer in patients with thyroid hypofunction detected in pregnancy, in order to risk-stratify for worsening thyroid function both during gestation as well as postpartum.” The findings were published in Thyroid.
