Number Of Reported Ocular TB Cases Increased Between 1993 And 2019, Study Suggests

Infectious Disease Advisor (9/30, Kuhns) reports, “Despite a decrease in the number of tuberculosis (TB) cases in the United States, the number of reported ocular TB cases increased between 1993 and 2019, according to study results.” Researchers found that “the number of ocular TB cases annually rose from 26 in 1993 to 151 in 2019.” Study results indicate “the percentage of all extrapulmonary TB cases represented by ocular TB also rose from 0.5% in 1993 to 5.1% in 2019.” The findings were published in Open Forum Infectious Diseases.
