Pandemic Disrupted Pediatric RSV Patterns In China, Study Shows

Pulmonology Advisor (11/5, Goldberg) reports, “The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted pediatric respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) patterns in China, resulting in off-season outbreaks and an overall increase in positivity rates, according to” a recent study. Researchers “sought to characterize how the COVID-19 pandemic affected pediatric RSV in China with respect to positivity rates and the timing of outbreaks.” The “retrospective multicenter study included 872,565 children less than 18 years of age (40.2% girls) who presented with respiratory symptoms and were subsequently tested for RSV.” Findings were published in Respiratory Medicine.
