Study Finds High HIV Viral Load Prior To ART Initiation, Incomplete Suppression Are Predictors Of Nonsustained Viral Suppression In Patients Who Transition From Oral To LA ART With CAB+RPV

Infectious Disease Advisor (11/11, Nye) reports research found that “high HIV viral load prior to antiretroviral therapy (ART) initiation and incomplete suppression are predictors of nonsustained viral suppression in patients who transition from oral to long-acting (LA) ART with cabotegravir (CAB) plus rilpivirine (RPV).” The investigators said, “This study underscores the importance of assessing patient virological history and the degree of viral suppression prior to transitioning to CAB+RPV to optimize treatment outcomes and does not support therapeutic drug monitoring.” The findings were published in Clinical Infectious Diseases.
