November 14, 2024

Bloomberg (11/13, Kew, Subscription Publication) reports that “the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention has approved the first locally-made diagnostic test for mpox, as the agency aims to stem outbreaks of the lethal disease on the continent.” The diagnostic tool, a real-time polymerase chain reaction test made by Morocco-based Moldiag, “was recommended by the agency’s diagnostic advisory committee.” Africa CDC Director-General Jean Kaseya said, “This major milestone is in line with the African Union’s continental effort to strengthen the self-sufficiency of African public health systems.”
