Louisiana Health Officials Report Potential Avian Flu Human Case

Reuters (12/13, Roy) reported, “The Louisiana Department of Health said on Friday it has detected the first presumptive positive human case of H5N1 bird flu infection in the U.S. state. The individual is a resident of southwestern Louisiana and is currently hospitalized.” State health officials are “coordinating with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on the epidemiologic investigation.” NBC News (12/13, Edwards) also reported.
