Study Suggests Switch To INSTIs During Menopause Linked To Faster Increases In BMI, Waist Circumference In Women With HIV

Infectious Disease Advisor (12/16, Nye) reports, “Compared with women with HIV who did not switch to an integrase strand transfer inhibitor (INSTI)-based regimen during late peri- and menopause, those who did switch experienced faster increases in BMI and waist circumference, according to study findings.” The researchers said, “Menopausal phase should be considered in WWH [women with HIV] when switching to an INSTI-containing regimen, which has important clinical implications regarding ART selection for midlife WWH.” The findings were published in Clinical Infectious Diseases.
