The ASCP Choosing Wisely Effective Test Utilization Steering Committee is developing its seventh list of evidence-based recommendations. The group encourages pathologists and laboratory professionals to submit recommendations. ASCP’s lists were developed under the leadership of the ASCP Effective Test Utilization Steering Committee, chaired by ASCP Past President Lee H. Hilborne, MD, MPH, DLM(ASCP)CM, FASCP, and comprising subject matter and test utilization experts across the fields of pathology and laboratory medicine.
ASCP’s recommendations target laboratory tests that are performed frequently; are deemed to either offer no benefit or are harmful (either entirely or in specific clinical situations); are costly and do not provide higher quality care; and are within the control of the clinician to eliminate or change to another test. Implementation of these recommendations will result in higher quality care, lower costs and a more effective use of laboratory resources and personnel. This year, we are particularly interested in receiving additional recommendations focused on anatomic pathology. We encourage you to keep these features in mind when drafting potential recommendations.

Please send your suggested recommendation(s) along with supporting evidence in the form of peer-reviewed journals, if available, to Edna Garcia, MPH, Director, Scientific Engagement and Research, ASCP Institute of Science, Technology and Policy, at edna.garcia@ascp.org by February 28, 2020.
