CMS Urged to Consider Specialists When Implementing MIPS Value Pathways

May 08, 2020

ASCP recently cosigned a letter developed by the American Medical Association (AMA) to address concerns with CMS’ implementation of the MIPS Value Pathways (MVPs) – a new construct designed to reduce burden and focus reporting on patient outcomes and care episodes. While we agree that the MVPs are a step in the right direction in terms of streamlining program requirements, ASCP is concerned with how non-patient facing specialties, like pathology, will fit into the new schema. Specifically, the Promoting Interoperability category is the proposed cornerstone of the MVPs and pathologists are exempt from this category. Additionally, there is little information on how Qualified Clinical Data Registry data will be integrated into the program.
