On Oct. 19, the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health held a hearing titled “What’s the Prognosis?: Examining Medicare Proposals to Improve Patient Access to Care & Minimize Red Tape for Doctors.” The hearing was intended to address “fine-tuning Medicare payment to best serve seniors and strengthen the program.”
During the hearing, two bills supported by ASCP were discussed: (1) the Saving Access to Laboratory Services Act (SALSA), which would reform how CMS calculates payment rates under the clinical laboratory fee schedule, and (2) the Provider Reimbursement Stability Act of 2023 (PRSA), to reform the budget neutrality rules for the Medicare physician payment system.
ASCP is working with our association partners to enact these reforms.
