NBC News (11/30, Hayes) reports CDC Director Mandy Cohen reassured members of Congress on Thursday that a respiratory illness in China was not the result of “a new or novel pathogen.” Cohen noted that the surge “can instead be attributed to existing viruses and bacteria.” CNN (11/30, Goodman, McPhillips) reports that Cohen also updated the congressional subcommittee Thursday “about cases of respiratory illness in the US due to three viruses: flu, the coronavirus and respiratory syncytial virus, or RSV.”
