HCV Reinfection Rates Among Patients Who Inject Drugs Are High In Immediate Period Following Curative Treatment But Decrease Over Time, Research Finds

Infectious Disease Advisor (10/10, Chan) reports research found that “hepatitis C virus (HCV) reinfection rates among patients who inject drugs were found to be high in the immediate period following curative treatment but significantly decreased over time, indicating the importance of early intervention.” In subgroup analyses, investigators found “the incidence of HCV reinfection was lower among patients aged 40 years and older...Black patients...and those who tested negative for methamphetamine at baseline.” The findings were published in JAMA Network Open.
