China Defends Its COVID-19 Data-Sharing As WHO Repeats Its Call For More Information And Access

Reuters (12/31, Lee, Woo) reports, “China has shared the most COVID-19 data and research results in the international community, its foreign ministry said...after the World Health Organization repeated its call for more information and access.” Additionally, “China is...the only country that organised experts to share traceability progress with the WHO on many occasions, Mao Ning, spokesperson at the foreign ministry, told a regular news conference.” Politico Europe (12/31, Eccles) reported that in a statement, WHO said, “We continue to call on China to share data and access so we can understand the origins of Covid-19. This is a moral and scientific imperative.” WHO added, “Without transparency, sharing, and co-operation among countries, the world cannot adequately prevent and prepare for future epidemics and pandemics.”
