March 20, 2025

Infectious Disease Advisor (3/19, Kuhns) reports study results suggest “the influenza vaccine was found to be protective against outpatient illness during the 2023 to 2024 season, but its effectiveness varied by age group and by influenza virus type.” Researchers found that “patients with influenza were more likely to be men, younger, identify as Black or African American, and report better overall health than those in the test-negative control group.” Overall, the 2023-2024 influenza vaccine “conferred significant protection against outpatient illness for at least 120 days in pediatric and adult patients younger than 64 years.” Results from the study were published in Clinical Infectious Diseases.
