ASCP Focuses on Needs of Latinx and Indigenous Peoples in Health Care

October 01, 2021

Exploring ways that the medical community can better serve the United States’ diverse population has gained momentum in recent years. As part of ASCP’s Diversity, Equity + Inclusion initiative, we have been reaching out to our members of diverse cultural heritage to learn about their experiences and to educate our members about the unique health care needs of people of color.

In September, we celebrated Latinx History Month, asking Latinx leaders in pathology and laboratory medicine to share their thoughts and experiences on what it means to be Latinx in health care, health myths surrounding the Latinx culture and what health professionals can do to better understand the Latinx community.

In addition, ASCP is recognizing Indigenous People's Day on October 11, and honoring Indigenous communities and their resiliency. We look at how the laboratory can be a leader in providing this population with high-quality care that meets their health care needs.
