ASCP Choosing Wisely at Age 10: Looking Back and Looking Forward, a Path to Chicago virtual session, from 12-1 p.m. CT. This session will offer highlights of the ASCP Effective Test Utilization Steering Committee’s work to support ASCP’s
Choosing Wisely initiative and its impact over the past decade. ASCP members need to register at

In addition, the Society has also invited several
Choosing Wisely Champions to present their results of test utilization initiatives at their respective health systems during the ASCP 2022 Annual Meeting in Chicago. The session,
Choosing Wisely Champions Inspire Effective Test Utilization Measures, will be held on Sept. 7, from 9-10 AM CT. Lee H. Hilborne, MD, MPH, FASCP, DLM(ASCP)
CM, chair of ASCP’s Effective Test Utilization Committee will moderate. Presenters will include Gregory Sossaman, MD, MASCP, chair of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine with the Ochsner Clinic Foundation, New Orleans; Yaolin Zhou, MD, Associate Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Head of Molecular Pathology and Director of Quality and Test Utilization, East Carolina University; and Heather Signorelli, DO, Vice President and Chief Laboratory Officer with HCA Healthcare.
This session will include a discussion of the ASCP Effective Test Utilization Steering Committee’s major initiatives and current activities on effective test utilization in pathology and laboratory medicine, and recognition of individuals and clinical teams for their commitment to the
Choosing Wisely campaign.
Lastly, ASCP’s Institute for Science, Technology and Policy will host a session on the state of the medical laboratory workforce, titled
Workforce Crisis: Time to Act, on Sept 8, from 8;30 to 9:30 a.m. CT, during the Annual Meeting. Speakers include Gregory Davis, MD, FASCP, as moderator; along with Gregory Sossaman, MD, MASCP, and Susan Harrington, PhD, D(ABMM), MLS(ASCP)CM, chair of ASCP’s Workforce Steering Committee. Be sure to join ASCP’s leaders for a discussion of laboratory workforce needs and key policy and practice issues relevant to pathology and laboratory medicine.
