Announcement Regarding Journals Switching to Online Only

July 19, 2023

Beginning in January 2024, ASCP will publish its journals, American Journal of Clinical Pathology and Laboratory Medicine exclusively online. This shift to online only availability comes at a crucial point in pathology and laboratory medicine, offering readers access to papers the day they are published, providing you with immediate access to the latest groundbreaking research in pathology and laboratory medicine without the months-long delay for print.

ASCP members will also receive a richer and more personalized reading experience and more dynamic content, as the Society explores further opportunities in online publication. Also, as laboratories work to address their own impact on our environment and make diagnostic changes to increase sustainability, this move to online only journals allows ASCP to do our part when it comes to disseminating knowledge in a more sustainable fashion.

Laboratory Medicine Online has delivered digital content for nearly a decade,” says Roger L. Bertholf, PhD, Editor in Chief of Laboratory Medicine. “Practical, timely, and sustainably delivered, we are building on our success.”

The groundbreaking scientific content you’ve come to expect from AJCP and Laboratory Medicine will be at your fingertips, continuing to provide you with the research you need to expand your knowledgebase. The digital formats will be available through each publication’s websites: academic.oup.com/ajcp and academic.oup.com/labmed.

“Online publication also provides unique opportunities for new ways to present research content, new ways to link to other pertinent information, and to essentially rethink what research publications could look like,” says Steven H. Kroft, MD, MASCP, Editor in Chief of AJCP and a past President of ASCP.

In the coming months, we will provide ASCP members with new and better ways to access the digital journals, including the option to set your own alerts to be sure you do not miss the specific information that most affects your specialty.

“By taking our journals online only, we are making the latest research accessible with just a few clicks,” says ASCP CEO Blair Holladay, PhD, MASCP, SCT(ASCP)CM. “We are embracing the digital age to share ideas faster and easier with the global laboratory community.”
