ASCP, in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, has launched a new initiative to address the laboratory workforce shortage and provide laboratory directors with practical tools to help demonstrate the value of their laboratories to C-suite administration. Read more.

ASCP Bolsters Congressional Support for Cervical Cancer Prevention
With rates of cervical cancer increasing in the United States, ASCP and several other organizations are encouraging congressional leaders to renew efforts to increase cervical cancer screening rates. Read more.

Save the Date for Laboratory Advocacy: September 21
ASCP members are encouraged to mark September 21 on their calendars as The SALSA Day of Action. ASCP, along with other pathology and laboratory organizations, is working to urge Congress to fix flaws in way the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services calculates reimbursement rates for the Medicare Clinical Laboratory Fee Schedule. CMS Nursing Degree Rule Undergoing Review by Federal Budget Management Office
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services recently submitted its final rule on the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 for OMB review. Last year, ASCP opposed a proposal to recognize nursing degrees as sufficient for high complexity testing as part of the rule. It’s is unclear if that proposal and in what form will be in the final rule. Read more.

ASCP Patient Champions Offer New Patient Education Resources
The ASCP Patient Champions program has expanded its resource library to include five new educational flyers explaining laboratory testing related to psoriasis, vitiligo, sarcomas, small intestinal cancer, and gender affirming care. This library services to help patients understand their diagnoses and laboratory results. Read more.
